Creating a Daily Tarot Ritual for Self-Love, Self-Care, and Spiritual Awakening

Tarot is increasing in popularity and for good reason! If you're feeling like you want a bit more mindfulness and self-reflection in your life and you want it to have a kind of magical vibe... keep reading! This is a great way to cultivate a connection to yourself and with divination.

But there is a difference between sitting at your altar and connecting to your self once in a blue moon, and committing to sitting with yourself and connecting every single day. They say that this is what makes this more of a ritual than just a normal routine!

A ritual is grounded, has a spiritual focus, is less rushed, and more structured. It's so healthy to begin each day with this (whether or not you use tarot cards - although, we do recommend using them!) especially with the fast-paced lifestyle and momentum we have right now.

This is an excellent tool for self-reflection, something that helps us communicate with our heart and Higher Self. It cultivates balance within and so many other good things—I think you've heard all this before! We know by now that self-care is good for us haha.

Alright, let's talk about how we can bring in the magic of tarot into our self-care routine.

Combining tarot and mindfulness on your daily routine can you in several ways:

1. Reduce stress and increase focus:

With mindfulness and mental clarity achieved, reducing stress and increasing focus will be easier—and tarot readings can encourage being fully present in the moment, allowing for deeper insights.

2. Become a mirror to your subconscious:

Using tarot can help you reflect on the situation as each card is rich in symbolism and help you gain more insight through each pattern and element that can lead to a deep introspection. Pulling a card and assessing the message it conveys allows you to practice self-awareness. This practice builds mental resilience and a greater understanding of yourself.

3. Improve your spiritual alignment:

Adding tarot to your daily ritual/routine helps align you with your spiritual path. It doesn’t matter if you’re seeking a general guidance or looking for answers about a specific situation, tarot can tap into your intuition and the energy around you. And it can guide you to come into greater spiritual alignment with your Higher Self. As you begin to notice patterns in your readings, you’ll feel more connected to the universe and your spiritual journey.

Let’s Create a Daily Ritual with Your Deck

Infusing your daily ritual with a tarot deck doesn’t have to be complicated nor time-consuming. There’s also no right or wrong way to start this. But if you feel like you need guidance, here are simple steps you can start with and just modify it along the way!

1. Prepare your materials for the ritual (try doing this the day before you start your daily ritual)

Well, all you’ll need would be a tarot deck and a journal.

You can cleanse your tarot deck to clear its energy (there’s no harm in starting this with a blank slate), and infuse it with a new one. There are different ways to cleanse your deck, you can look it up and try what works best for you.

And if you prefer to make it more relaxing by setting the mood, you can prepare a cuppa tea, incense sticks, candles, a cozy blanket, or some crystals for good energy. Feel free to go all out or keep it simple with something like your favourite golden candle.

Maybe you'd like to do a one card spread for an intention for the day or a three card spread to better understand your situation. Prepare to pull as many or as few cards as feels right for you!

2. Loosen up and ground yourself, Love!

Grounding yourself by taking a few deep breaths and a few loud sighs can help you with this. You can also make your body feel even more relaxed by doing a few stretches! Untie some of those knots and notice as you become more open and accepting of the positive energy you’d like to have.

For a total bonus non-compulsory thing, if you don’t have any stretches in mind and you have some extra time, you can try this full length yoga class that one of our founders, Jenn, shared before!

3. Set an intention

A daily ritual starts with a purpose, no matter how small and simple it may be. So before you shuffle your tarot deck, think of what you hope to gain from the reading so you can focus your energy on it.

Earlier, we invited you to choose a tarot spread you’d like to do. You can set your intention based on the cards you’ll draw. You can find more of it here.

For example...
I want clarity about today’s challenges
I seek guidance for emotional balance
What will guide me today?
What must I learn today?

4. Draw, reflect, meditate and journal

Shuffle the tarot deck with your intention in mind and draw a card. Witness the symbols. Soak in the imagery. Reflect on the thoughts and feelings that came up to you during that moment. If you choose a multi-card spread, jot down each interpretation and thoughts individually and when you’re done, see if you can read the spread as a whole.

Apply what you’ve learned to your own life. How is it connected to you and your life? What personal reminders or messages do they intend to convey to me?

5. Ritual for every part of the day (optional)

Tarot can be a versatile part of your day. Here are some ideas where you can incorporate tarot in different parts of the day:

Morning ritual for focus and clarity: Starting the day by pulling a card to set the tone of your day. This can help you focus on what you want to achieve and how you want to feel throughout the day, offering you guidance for the day.

Example: If you draw a card like The Magician, use it as a reminder of your personal power and ability to manifest your goals for the day.

Midday re-entering practices: Are you having a midday slump? If you need a moment to re-center yourself, you can use a quick tarot reading. Pull a card that helps you check in with your emotional state or refocus on your tasks. This can refresh your energy and push towards the day with clarity and purpose.

Nighttime reflection ritual: End your day with a reflection journal for a soothing way to unwind and prepare to rest. Empty your mind by writing about the emotions, challenges, and emotions you experienced the whole day. Draw a tarot card to help you process any lingering thoughts or feelings.

Starting a routine can be difficult, it’s not easy to stick to one, let alone make it a habit. Staying consistent would be difficult at first, but that’s okay.

Remember to start small so you won’t get overwhelmed with doing it and feel like it's a chore. You can start with just 5 minutes a day, a quick reflection and draw just one card. Then, you can eventually extend the time and increase the cards you’ll draw, while including meditation, journaling, and other things you’d like to include in your ritual.

Don’t be afraid to experiment with different techniques or times of day to find what works best for you. It all depends on your preferences, it doesn’t matter if it’s a morning ritual to set the tone for the day or an evening reflection for unwinding. Make it your own.
